First build... amp to sub watts to ohms question

Sooooo, I thought I knew how to install a car stereo because after all its just speakers and amps right? Good lord what a mess... I am trying to figure out which would be the best way to wire my sub and have run into an issue.. I'm running a single 10" dvc 2 ohm with a1 channel mono amp...the issue is "nominal" watts.. everything I've found says nominal watts and rms watts are the same.. the problem is that my sub is rated 2k watts rms 4k watts nominal and 8k watts peak..so depending how it's wired, the amp is good for 1700 watts @ 4 ohms and 3200 watts @ 1 ohm.. that being said if the speaker's rms wattage is truly 2k.. I don't want to run it for 1 ohm... any help is appreciated
