fronts clipping with sub on, but not with sub off at same volume
ok my system consists of two amps: orion 1200D (1200watts @ 1ohm) and an MB quart ra2400 (200watts x2 @4ohms) i have 1/0 guage wiring with a fused 1/0 to 4ga distro block in the back (150amps per fuse) with one run of 4 ga to each amp
i have upgraded the battery ground to chassis but didnt have enough wire for alt neg to chasis and alt positive to battery. i can turn the volume up to 28 on my hu without the front speakers clipping when i have the sub turned off, but as soon as i turn the sub on and bring it up to 28 the front speakers clip, i figure this is a problem with not enough current getting to the 2 channel amp for the front speakers because the orion is hoggin it all. is there any truth to my theory? and if so, how could it be fixed?

I've had that probelm a couple of cars ago.
The sub amp draws a lot of current and that will pull down your voltage, so your amp for the highs will clip sooner.
I know i'll get a lot of flak here for saying so, but a big cap will solve that problem.
Like I said, that was 2 cars ago when i had a total of 1000 wrms.
I put in a 1 F cap and the clipping and lights dimming went away.
My last car had 1500 wrms so i went up to 2 F. It worked.
In my new car, which came with a 145 amp alt, big battery and larger wire all around, I'm running a total of 2020 wrms and using a 1 F and a 2 F cap.

well i just ordered a 2.5 farad cap (used) and more 1/0 guage so i can finish my big 3, hopefully this fixes the problem, im also plannin on ground each amp seperately into the chasis instead of through the distro

i figured out the problem, after disconnecting my battery the deck reset all the settings and the fader was set to 0 instead of almost full front, so the deck was clipping from driving the 6x9's in the back causeing my amp to clip
