wow,is that ever tiny.
lowest line on the eye chart for car audio freaks.
alot of points for sq are based on basic install and tonal accuracy, staging is important, but doesn't count for as many points.
westec is the best person to ask about grading a sound system.

I think it's kinda funny how everyone went with "cash" for the SPL thread, and in this thread everyone seems to go with "time and patience"

So, another question...

Which do you think would be easier to win with. A person with a TONNE of money, but very little brains, competing in SPL.

OR

A person with all the time/knowledge in the world, but barely enough cash to scrape together a budget system. (we're talking Pyle/Thump type stuff here) Competing in SQ

No trophys yet....but holy crap does time ever come to the top of my list. Given what I've learned about car audio in general, and sound in my car specifically, I think that knowledge is definitely key to a great install. I'm betting I could have spent 1/4 what I have on equipment, and my end result would be pretty close to what it sounds like now. That said, I wouldn't be able to get where I want to go with my system without the really expensive gear. Still working on it...

However, there is definitely a huge level of enjoyment from working with high quality gear. Every time you lay a hand on something well built it feels good. Some of the gear a lot of the pro's use to win BIG trophys would be considered art to industrial designers.

The funny thing is, that most of the top level competitors haven't paid for the majority of their gear with cash. They have built a reputation that solicited top level representation from major manufactures. How did they do that? They invested a lot of time in the sport.

I can think of a few members of this board that are deserving of that level of support.

I would like to add to my previous post... Time is something that is essential, in addition to the other things I mentioned. Another thing that I feel is a good thing is a mentorship/teacher relationship. for us younger guys to have someone to teach us, and help us learn the finer points is a great asset. Personally, I'd love to have that kind of situation as I build my next vehicle.

See... now you're cheating. Because it isn't YOU that is putting the system together.

If you start adding in 3rd parties then you complicate the question too much.

"Well what if a buddy of yours gives you an entire P1 system, well that's free. So SQ is easier because I can win with no money"

C'mon. You know what I was getting at.

With no outside help aside from say.. asking people here on CCA. Which is easier to do?
