Honda civic wiring
Honda civic wiring
Hi all, I have a 1990 honda civic dx h/b that I'm trying to put a new cd deck in and I am having some problems with the original wiring. I read that the blue/white cable is the constant 12v + and I connected the yellow memory wire to this one, then I connected the red switch cable to the red/yellow which is supposed to be the right cable. Then, I have to tried connecting the ground cable from the cd deck to metal, with no success, and I have tried connecting the ground cable to a black wire that is with the rest of the originals, with no success. I guess I am doing something wrong? Oh ya, and I've tried hooking up the memory/switch cables to my battery directly and the ground to a piece of metal, and it worked out just fine. Do I need to buy new wires or something? Thanks.
Did you disconnect the battery before you started?
Sounds to me like you blew a fuse
Look at the Radio/Lighter fuse I think its a 15amp
Always disconnect the neg. lead of the battery before you start
Also Make sure that the Switched 12v is all Yellow with Red stripes, NOT all Red with Yellow stripes, thats the Right Rear + speaker wire
Constant 12v-Blue/White
Switched 12v-Yellow/Red
Ground-Black
Illumination-Red/Black
LF(+) -Blue/Green
LF(-) -Grey/Black
RF(+) - Red/Green
RF(-) - Brown/Black
LR(+) -Blue/Yellow
LR(-) -Grey/White
RR(+) -Red/Yellow
RR(-) -Brown/White

I used to have a Honda Civic and put countless headunits in it (grass was always greener) and I think that was the way. Theres one way to find out.
The fuse doesn't blow when your taking the deck out it blows when you plug the harness back in, so if you take the wires and expose them, then test for power with the ignition off it will give you a good idea of which ones constant, you can use a multi-meter, but if you don't have one a test light from Canadian tire will do the same thing for alot cheaper (about $10.00). Just remember to unplug the neg lead before you plug the harness back into the deck
I'll give you the link to the site where I got the wire codes from maybe it will help

there are 2 fuses for the acc.(memory) wire one is in the fuse box in the kick 10 amp i think the other is under the hood in the main fuse box should be a 7.5 amp check those then try again. And by the way never use a test light. Only use a Digital multi meter(same price as a test light) or a prologic probe(professional and much more money) Test lights have the nasty habit of blowing things(fuses, computers etc.) test lights are only good for charging caps
