how to hide the deck
Okay, throwing a big one out there. I have read a number of HOWTO posts on ways to keep your system low key, but what if a removeable face plate is not an option?
The deck I'd like to get doesn't have a removeable faceplate (Eclipse CD5000), so what should I do?
To make things more difficult, I've got a 2004 buick lesabre and the cd/cassette deck is 1.5 din.
In a perfect world I could hide my deck behind a false deck face... but I'm not sure its possible.
...and no, I'm not looking for alternative decks. (=

Recess it and make a false face, mount in the glovebox, mount in the center console maybe...
I don't think that's actually 1.5 din... I have a regal and I'm 90% sure it's the same opening, my double din fits fine. Not how I see that is relevant when trying to hide your deck.
My favorite response to that is "don't buy eclipse"
ESN sucks unless the thief is educated about it, which most punk kids are not.

I agree that not getting an eclipse is the first option, but going beyond that...
Do you have any storage pockets or cubbies? A couple of the cars I shopped this fall had them, and most were deep enough for a deck.
Otherwise, you can go to the wreckers and get another factory deck, yank the faceplate off and use that to create some kind of false face.
Glovebox mounts are fine IMO only if you are honestly not going to reach over to fiddle with it while you are driving.
Console mounts pose a similar problem, but at least you arent leaning all the way across the car.
