Importance of Power Cable thickness?

3 or 4 years ago we had snow in August. It went from -10 one day to +35 the next. How many places get a 45 degree swing in temperature in less than 20 hours? 
But yah it's very hot here in the summer, and then we can get -40 in the winter, without windchill. It's really nice living here

Find someone with an IASCA handbook. There's a chart in there that tells you exactly what gauge wire you need to be running based upon how much power you are using and how long the length of wire needs to be.
