I won't install a deck in a newer GM with out that harness. There has been cases of the Airbag light going on. Just use the harness and save you self the hassle. It's a brand new car why take any risks.

Like I said, how much warranty do you give on your advice?

You admit yourself that not everything will work properly, how's that for proof.
I know their cost because a friend of mine used to work at Future Shop and employee cost was $55 at the time, meaning their cost was $50 since employee cost is cost + 10%. When I was also ignorant and didn't know any better, I was interested in the T-Harness as well and FS was selling it for slightly over $100, so in fact my math skills aren't so far off. If the price has gone down now, then I suspect the cost has also dropped.

And don't be so picky. You know full well I was referring to the diagnostics and airbags when I meant there are no problems. But to be more specific, you lose your chimes and that is it. I thought this was a given in my last post. You obviously have nothing else if you have to resort to picking apart points of my arguments that are a given or my math skills.

And about the FS thing, just look how many FS installers and employees like to argue this point with me You are an install manager and have no clue about this issue.

And again, show me proof that there are problems with the airbags and diagnostics if the relocation isn't done. I can assure you you won't find any

The only way the airbag light would go on is if you tapped into one of the yellow wires. There is no switched wire on the wiring harness, so some installer must have tapped into the airbag wire and created all this garbage.

Well it's obvious MY advice doesn't come with warranty, but I know shops that do this install without the relocation and they certainly have warranty on their work. Auto Sound Design is one for example. So now you can drop your sole argument because there are shops out there that will do this install without the T-Harness.

GM says use it
Scosche lists a relocation kit for the Jbody
Metra lists a relocation kit for the Jbody
BestKits lists a relocation kit for the Jbody
Most professional installers say use the relocation kit in a Jbody.

Personally - I would use a relocation kit in a Jbody
I agree with you Dukk in the actual harness cost. I have to admit that the extra $55 isn't THAT much. I didn't know the price of the T-harness had come down from when I looked at them. For me, the extra $55 is still a waste though.

However, furthermore, this extra $55 is only if you do it yourself. I have heard of several quotes of $200 installs for a deck. This is outrageous in my opinion as it doesn't take a lot of effort to run the cable under the carpet to the trunk.

Personally, I also think that having the stock deck in the trunk kinda sucks, and so does the bulge in the carpet from the 1" thick cable.

We make the same profit whether we use the T harness or we use another harness. And not to mention the extra work for us to run a harness to the trunk and find a home for the radio. </font>[/QUOTE]By law, the dealer can not refuse warranty work unless they can prove that removal of the deck without relocating it caused the problem in question. They can not prove anything unless the problem is no more chimes

A warranty is only there to protect a companies ***, Not yours. If a company sells a product with a defect, and someone comes back,, and asks for a new one.. it'd be bad business if they didn't give them a new one, and they'd gain a bad reputation. A warranty is there, so that the company can say no, after a certain period of time. Many companies have strict warranty policies, such as electronics not being opened, or computers.. A sticker on the side that must be broken to get into the case. If that sticker is broken, the warranty is void, even if your opening it didn't cause the damage. I am not sure if it' the same with the relocation of the deck, but i wouldn't be surprised.. I would just spend the extra $55, and rest assured that you will never have an issue with the warranty.
