Making a mold to make a fiberglass copy
Hey all, its bin a while since i posted here. and i figure ill ask a tough question for the fiberglass gurus... I have some parts that are made out of plastic and some hard foam rubber. what i like to do is make fairly close duplicates of the orginal pieces without ruining them. is there any way to do this or am i screwed on the concept? my skills are not that great with fiberglass but i know how to play with it. any help would be great
What are you trying to make ? What kind of parts ? If you want to make copies of them the easiest would be to make some silicon mold of the items which won't ruin the original and then make your parts from those silicon molds.
I have a couple of dash parts for my truck. it only took mr 4 years to find the right parts and right color and they didnt cost a arm and leg too. i want to change them but not destory the parts. how would i get silicon to not stick to the parts, so it comes off easier?
silicon won't stick to it, it's the nature of the product. if your worried about it spray the parts with a PVA release agent.
companies like www.smoothon.com make kits that will allow you to make silicone molds.
