Hi All..

Here is the design of my SPL box i will be building.. tuned to around 37hz.

Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated..

It will be made out of 3/4" MDF.. and the curve will be 3/4 MDF notched to bend around the 14 inch halp circle, then re inforced with glass/resin.

Looks interesting. Nice and smooth, no dead air, should be an efficent SPL box. I have had that same idea floating around aswell. But I would like to find a way to incorperate areoports. Make sure to keep us updated on how it sounds.

What is filling the big hole in the front of that box?

Well if your talking for woofers.. it will be my 2 Kaption Spl-1200's.. they are this years model.

Now in the picture i don't show the full front baffle.. it will go from bottom to top on the left side.. i left it notched out just to illustrate the port opening..

The main problem i have is height.. my max is 16" or its not fitting.. If i had a pair of 10's it would give me a 3" opening i could try a rectangular style aeroport, where it would close to 2" in the centre and flare out to 3.5" on the ends. But with only 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" clearance for the port im only gonna be able to router the edges round which helps but no where near as effective as the aeroports..

If im happy with the sound i will be re-inforcing it in the outside with some aluminum straps from the bottom around the 'half sphear' then tacked down on the top for structural support, then glass them over and make it look good..

The last thing i wanna do is have to curve the inside of the port, hence why only a 1 1/4" opening.

SPL box... tuned to 37Hz?

You might want to rethink that one and tune a bit higher.

I was guna tackle something like this. I think the port end(inside the box) should be tear shaped. with a smooth droop on the inside the the air coming from the D in the box doesnt get cut off and slam into the woofer.

Like that, but with no jaggy on the top of the \

I thank everyone for there input... The main thing will be building the shell of the box.. then i can build a few different baffles / configurations, one being that exact design.. one being a flared port on both ends.. I will just make the baffle and the port all one peice.. for both configurations.. once i find which is best then i will make another baffle to hold one sub and keep an identical port design.
