need help with aftermarket stereo install

I just bought a new receiver replacing my old aftermarket sony deck... installing it looks simple so i dont want to take it in i'd rather do it myself.... im just curious do i need a new wire harness for this receiver or will the one from my aftermarket sony head unit work fine and i just have to unplug everything and snap it onto this one?

For one, you should probably state what 'new receiver' your getting. But unless you took the time to crimp male/female disconnects on the wiring harness; You wont be unplugging anything, but rather cut/solder/heatshink the new deck to the wiring harness.
Its not hard, I would suggest saving the $50-$100 and do it yourself. Get a couple of beers and take your time.

I think what he is asking is "will the molex plug in the back of the old headunit just plug into the new headunit and work?" If that's the question, theres a very slight chance it's work if the new deck is also a Sony but not likely. Even if the plug fits, you will need to check each pin out on the 2 decks to make sure each wire is in the same location. Otherwise it will be just you luck they reversed the location of the ground & "BAT" wire thn you will get a real cool smoke show but not alot of sound. If it were me, I would just start over with the new connector and do as Njord had stated above. If you have or can get the specific dash harness pigtail for your vehicle, you will be able to do the soldering closer to the beer fridge on a bench or something then just plug it in when you are done. Good luck!
