Need recommendations for treating/prepping doors?

This is my first post, so go easy on the noobie.

I am in the process of shopping for some nice component speakers to replace my factory fronts. I'm going to move up from 5.25" and force in a pair of 6.5"s. I'm leaning towards Focal based on comments from members in my car club. I'm just trying to get over the price tag on some of the high end stuff. lol

Since I am planning to spend a few coins I have decided that I should spend a little extra time on the install. I'm shooting for decent midbase. I am wondering what I should be doing to the doors to get the best quality sound. Dynomat or B-Quiet is the first thing that comes to mind. Is there anything else that I need to do, aside from new wiring?

The car is a 98 Grand Prix btw.

Definitely heading in the right direction, if you're going to spend the coin on decent speakers, spend the time and money prepping the install to get to most out of those speakers.

deadener is a definitely first step, cover the larger holes with something else first, plexiglass or aluminum or whatever then cover as much as possible with deadener, make or have made a really good baffle for the speaker to mount to and make sure it's all sealed up so the back wave doesn't find its way around to the front and cause noise and/or cancellation.

make the door as stiff and sealed as possible.

Baffles would be a good idea. I'm not sure how much space there is. It's been a while since I've had these doors apart.

Is there a guild to making baffles? Does the size matter? Etc... etc..

Sorry, I just need to check. Are we talking about those foam baffles shaped like a big cup, or the mdf ring for mounting? I've seen people refering to both as a baffle.

just something rigid to mount the driver to, I guess like a ring, but the bigger the better.

The factory speakers already have something like a baffle. I'm guessing it's plastic. This is one that was modified to fit a 6.5". Do you see any problems with it, as long as it's a perfectly sealed?

Below is pretty much what the door looks like. Should I be ditching all that plastic? I'm not sure if GM put it there for sound dampening, moisture, or retaining heat, but it's there. My guess is lose it, seal it all up, then dampen.

Yes take off the plastic and recover with dynamat or what ever sound deadning you choose. I would suggest inside the door aswell, especially behind the speakers.

I just installed a new set of rockford power 6.5 comps and i first mated the door then a nice set of mdf rings mostly to clear the window and then a foam baffle to protect speaker from moisture and dirt seems to work well now just have to trim door panels for clearance damn civic.

im about to install my drivers!
whats the best way to cover the bigger holes when there are wires and rods going through them???
im guessing one would not just put dynamat or other right over the holes right!!
my truck door has a ton of holes some rather large ones.

thnx
thread jacking is over!!!
