Need some help figuring out what blew my sub
hey guys,
I have a soundstream trantula 1600/2 amp and a jl w7 13. I got 0 gauge wires installed at a store and after using the sub for couple hours, the sub blew. oh I have it running of a stock deck. i was just wondering if any one here could help me find out what could have been the problem for my sub blowing. the sub was brand new and i got the amp sent for a test to see if it is working fine and it is. please give me ur advice as to what could be wrong because im getting my w7 replaced with a new one and i dont want the new sub to blow again.
thanks

You played the system for how long at what volume level..... a sub must have a period of time to cool down otherwise sss (smelly speaker syndrome). I had a guy bring me two Eclipse titanium 12's that the magnets had basically melted right off of the basket after a trip from Northern Alberta to Southern BC, a 13 hour drive and he did not allow his speakers to cool. Crazy thing was that Eclipse warrantied them.
Whats blown on the sub?? If the voice coil is fried..... the amp could be bad and somehow passing DC into the voice coil. If the spider or the surround is ripped or the tinsil lead is broken.... it could be a box problem or defect in the sub etc.
well the voice coil was damaged.. notthe spider..
and i had played my music for maybe 1 hr or less and i got that funny smell....almostl ike a burnt smell..i couldn't play it at full volume because the car couldn't handle it cuz the ligths would dim and stuff.. its a pathfinder.
umm with the box, i made it and it was 2.2 cubic feet. i didn't tune it to any specific frequency.
The amp was givin in for a test to see if it functions properly and they said it did. the previous guy who owned the amp blew his subs too.. so i really dont know what could be it.
thanks a lot for ur input but keep them comin..

its in a sealed box. Its 2.2 cubic feet and the sub can handle well over 1600 watts but i never got the chance to pump 1600 watts into cuz truck couldn't handle it. i had all the gains down so i probably had about 600 watts runnin.
thanks
thanks
LEMON or your high levels u were running from th deck might of cause a little distortion to your speaker. If u had your bass , tweets turned all the way up with your volume say 45/50 that can finish any sub all it takes is less then 10 sec to fry them
