Need you professional advice.

First just want to say Hi to everybody and that I'm new here.

So I got my first car 2001 Mazda Protege ES 2.0.
I decided to change my deck and on my current budget the only place I could get a descent deck for the buck was the scrap yard. After my second visit to the yard I walked out with a Kenwood KDC-V7022 that I got for 4o$.

I never installed a deck and I don't know the electrical system in the car, but I'm hoping to learn with time.

I got the color codes for the deck from the manual and the color codes for the car from ondemand5.com. All the speakers work I'm very happy with everything.

Here is my problem the deck doesn't turn off when the car is off. The only way it will turn off is when I take the faceplate off the deck.
Do you guys know what the problem might be?

I connected the ground wire from the car to the ground wire from the deck, the ignition wire (red) with the battery wire (yellow) from the deck and then from the car the hot at all times (blue/red) with hot in acc & run (pink/black) then I put the 2 wires from the car with the 2 wires from the deck.

I hope that made sense and thanks in advance!

I agree with the harness but since you cut your wires already it don't matter.
Heres your problem you got your cont power wire hooked up to your ignition wire.
From the deck the red wire needs to go to the acc wire (ignition wire) from the car.
From the deck the yellow wire (const. power) needs to go to the battery wire from the car.
Do not connect the battery wire and the ignition wire together. I'll explain why.
The yellow wire from your deck is to keep constant power to the unit, so your settings don't erase when you turn the car off.
The red wire on the deck is to tell it to turn on when the car is on, so it does not stay on all the time, thats why it hooks up to the acc (or accessory) wire.So it only gets power when the ignition is turned on.
Hope this helps and don't worry its a common mistake with people that are new to car audio, look at it this way, I'll bet you never make this mistake again, sometimes it takes making mistakes to figure out the right way to do things as long as you learn from your mistakes

Ya the harness would have been great. When I checked all the stores that I could think of nobody had it in stock and I didn't have the patience to wait for delivery so like a dummy I cut the wires. I don't see the point in getting the harness now.

That was my very first attempt, I connected the acc with the acc and the constant power with the constant power it seemed logical to me. The only result I got from that was a red blinking light on the deck and I could hear the motor from the deck for the first 5 seconds that's it.

What do you think?

Oh and I forgot to mention that I have 2 wires left that I don't know what to do with. A light green/black and a white/blue they are the "interior lights system" wires, could they have anything to do with this?

It sounds like your acc wire has lost it's power. You'll need to get a test light to determine what your next coarse of action is going to be. You may have blown a fuse. The other two wires are immaterial at this point. Don't worry about it.
If it comes down to it, it may be as simple as going to a shop where they can just fix it for you on the spot. Good luck.

I don't think its a fuse I checked all the fuses and there still good. I will go tomorrow to get the test light and check it, do I put the clip to the ground wire and the end of the rod to the acc?

Is the potential for damage and the repair bill associated to it worth more or less to you than having a shop do it properly?
