West New installed JVC deck wont work in my 1987 Camaro

So today I went and bought a new JVC (KD-R610) deck and installed it right away.
My problem is that it wont actually turn on, whenever I turn the ignition it starts for like 5 seconds and then shuts off. If I press the "Display" button, it will turn on for a few seconds and display the clock. When I play the "eject" button it'll do the same thing except that it also then starts charging my iPod for a few seconds. As far as I can tell it has enough power but it wont actually turn on for longer than 5 seconds or play any music. (The only thing it does is display the time and doesnt react to any other buttons)

Any help on this matter would be highly appreciated, thanks

It sounds like you have not powered both the red & yellow wire. One should be battery power and the other should be hooked to a circuit that goes live in the accessory and run position on the key.

Cool

Do yourself a favour ..

Take it to a shop for a proper install before you destroy it

should have bought the wiring kit. but since it sounds like u didnt i would spend the extra $50 and get it installed by a professional.

OR

you can re-run the power wires. fine the wire that looks directly to the batterya dn run a wire to the battery (obviouslyly lol) but the other wire that turns the cd player on you can run a wire from the battery to a switch and then from the switch to the cd player. then all you have to do is flip the switch to turn it on . best idea i got. or cut into your circuits and find a wire that turns on with the key

West THANKS everyone

So I got an update on the matter, the only wire actually giving off power is the yellow one, and I dont have a red one. Now the question is: Why does it turn on for a few seconds when I turn the ignition and why doesnt it stay on, it obviously has enough power

hate to say it but theres a good possibility the deck is fried. aka no good to begin with. that sometimes happens. my friend bought a clarion and for some reason it would do the same thing and he kept returning it and they kept trying different things they finally found out with as an interior part was fried and he got a new one replaced a few days after. it was all good. so i would see what other people say and maybe return that cd player.

Pull the deck, lift the hood, connect the yellow & red to the postive post of the battery & the black to the negative post and turn it on. Then you will know what you are dealing with.
