While I understand people think you should get it professionally installed. People don't learn simple things that way...

All you need is constant 12V and a switched 12V wire (plus ground). Sounds like you hooked the yellow wire from the car to your red wire on the HU and/or got the wires backward. Do you have a digital volt meter? If not, get one, or borrow someones... Test the wires from your old radio harness. The yellow wire is constant (wire it to the yellow wire on HU), and one of the others should be switched (connect to the decks red wire), meaning when you turn the key on or back to acc. you get 12V. Test and wire accordingly.

I think my old camero wires were yellow (constant) and yellow w/red stipe (switched). It's been awhile though...

1987 Camaro.. easiest car to install a deck into... yellow is NOT constant, yellow /redstripe in a chev never happened (not factory anyway)

as I said earlier, take it to a shop before you let the magic smoke out, both ways its a learning experience except one is more pleasant.

Im out

^ Why tell? Dude should have bought a harness or shelled for the install.

Just because you own wire cutters it doesn't make you an installer.

I tell people all the time: I own a drill but I'm not a dentist but I'm willing to practice on you if you like

If there was a mention of a multi-meter or the right tools to do the job I think someone would have posted the info by now.

If there is any question at this point about the deck being DOA, or possibly damaged he should go to a qualified installer and get it checked and installed right - before something bad happens and he voids warranty on a $150 deck
