New Tweet install: I need opinions!! (pics)
#1
Okay, three pics here of where I want to possibly place my tweets in my new 5.1 surround setup on my Civic 01.
What do you guys and gals think? I have the little pioneer trim rings that came with the REV speakers that are behind the grills. As you see in the pics I also have the right angle pieces.
Please give me pros and cons of each of the mounting methods and any other spots you can think of. The goal of this install is stealth/factory looking.

Well, imo #2 is the most "stealth" looking but I can't visualize the axis of the tweet while sitting in the drivers seat with the door closed.
Looks like it may have to point in more?
Can you listen to each setup? That would help a lot.
Also, I was able to mount my tweet in the stock kick panel that gave me really good results. There's a thread in Install section with pics.
Can you do that with your kicks?

The stock kick will protude too much for my liking.. I am sure it will get hit on a reglar basis, not something I want to have happen. #2 points pretty much straight up at the listener on both sides of the vehicle. I myself, am leaning toward #1 as it (once installed and set in to the speaker grille) will be the "cleanest" looking. Thanks for your input.

The grey rings that come with it will look nice enough.. I have two choices.. light grey (from the REV tweets) or my older darker grey (from my TS1653 components).. I am liking that setup the nicest as it "centralizes" the tweet with the mid. As for fitting it behind.. it might be a tight fit.. I only have about an inch. How would you propose I put them there?

I'd agree with Dukk, Can't you get it behind the grill? That's a 6 1/2 mid-bass right? That grill is not round, so isn't their room infront or behind the mid-bass that you could mount the tweeter behind the grill? That would be the most stealth.
How to mount: use a metal hole saw and use the flush mount cup, that should give you more than enough room to play with.

I think none of the above...
From what I can see, #1 would project sound into the side of the drivers seat.
#2 and 3 project to the rear of the cabin.
IMO These are all bad Sound Quality/imaging spots.
I would opt for the "A" pillar mount or farther up on the door if at all possible.
Just my opinion.

Dann0:But having it so far from the mid isn't good, is it?
maltese: Can you elaborate on the install procedure for that tweet? I am not quite "getting it"... I think the cup you are talking about is the exact install that I was planning.. the picture does not do it justice.. it will be flush mounted like my old truck
But are you suggesting putting it behind the grille somehow? If so, how?

Yup, that's the flush mount cup I was talking about. My suggestion may or may not work. It was an idea.
From the pictures, your factory grill is not round, it is oblong. I can faintly see in the picture a darker circle behind the grill which I am guessing is the speaker. In front of that (Which in the picture is the top right portion of the grill) there looks like there might be about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of open space where you can mount the tweeter.
I don't mean flush mount the tweeter in the grill, I mean remove the factory panel, get a hole saw, cut a hole in the door metal and flush mount it in the door metal. Then it will be behind the grill. This will give you a stock look because the tweeter will not be visible on the door panel.
This idea may not work for 2 reasons:
1. you might not have the necessary 1 1/2" clearance in front of the midbass.
2. The grill holes might only be in a circle for the midbass, and not be the whole oblong shape of the grill.
I thought I would mention this idea because it is what I plan to do with my Subaru when I get time. My Sube has about 2 1/2 inches of unused space infront of the midbass that is still covered by the factory grill.
