Question Planning New Deck Installment

First post here

I have a 2006 Mazda 3 GT hatchback that is pretty much stock parts in terms of audio/video.

I'm looking to install a 6-7 inch touchscreen deck into the dash. Now I've done a couple simple audio deck installations before but they were on earlier cars and nothing with a stock deck as complex as this.

It seems the 3's system is all one panel that sort of has a slant inwards the entire way. That bothers me since I don't want some odd looking gaps underneath or on the side of the system.

I was hoping someone here has a bit of experience with this dash and if it's even possible to do this properly without having to spend a small fortune on dash modifications after the installation.

I haven't chosen a deck yet that will come later!

Thanks

If you're looking to install a double din deck in your car with no modification you need to get a dash kit.

You need the Scosche MA1540B dash kit or the Metra 95-7504 dash kit.

They are cheap, around 20 bucks.

Awesome thanks.

I was already aware of the Metra but was told to stay away because of the issues with it not covering the gaps like it claims to. So I thought it would have to be custom. But I'll take a look at the Scosche.

Now one other issue is, and I haven't looked yet, how complex is it to remove the stock dash?

AuxMod Mazda3 Install - a set on Flickr

There is a nice flickr album with pictures and directions on how to remove the dash assembly for the area around the head unit on a Mazda 3.

Apparently it is very crammed behind the deck if its a double din especially. Good luck on fitting all your cables and rca's behind there. Try and stay organized with cable ties.

Great that's pretty helpful. Yeah it does look cramped... I'm still looking around for reviews of the Scosche. So far what I've found it seems like the better choice.
