No he doesn't actually. Manufacturers have used dc light bulbs for years as a tweeter protector. MB Quart is another manufacturer that does this.

Your car is full of lightbulbs, take out your taillights, dome lights, headlights..... sorry I should have edited the dc part out of my post, actually I meant to do that and forgot (checked spelling first)
Ok, That's what i thought he meant, has me confused there [img]smile.gif[/img] I knew that a light bulb with a filament will work with either ac or dc power.. that's why I was confused [img]smile.gif[/img] Thanks for the clarification.

It is a fuse, and it's job is to dissipate excess energy(as stated in another post) that the speaker can't use.
Exactly like the system used by the famous Bose 901's that can take "unlimited power".
Turn up the volume and it glows brighter, the speakers will distort if pushed, but the excess power goes to the bulb.
