Rookie looking for some advice
Hey guys,
I am completely new to all of this and was hoping some of the vets may be able to point me in the right direction.
I just bought a 2005 Nissan 350z and want to upgrade the sound.
I got a brand new Kenwood 9140 head unit and a sub/amp combo off craigslist.
I need to buy speakers and an amp for the front now.
I went to a car audio shop but have no idea if they are ripping me off.
I would love to do this myself but don't want to mess up my new ride.
I was told it would take 4 hours for each door, 2 hours for the rears, 4 hours for the amp.....it was like $800 for labour!!!
Is that realistic or did I have a dumbass written on my forehead?
For that matter, does anyone know any honest shops in the GTA?
Thanks so much guys. I hope I can end up contributing one day.

The question you need to consider is do you want just anyone experimenting on your car? Not many people have the background to do a install properly so they automatically tell you that you are getting ripped. However what if that shop you went to had a fine installer there that did not cut corners at all, took the time to rewire every speaker in the vehicle? Time would definitely add up and the difference in install is definitely noticeable.
There are some good installers on this site in your area that can indeed look after this for you cheaper BUT how many of them would sign on the line that any damage caused to your car during the install would be covered by them? A shop can provide you with the guarantees that most keyboard installers cannot.
Your vehicle is not one to be experimented on by someone who has little to no background. I would want to know far more about the quote that was given to you, equipment, wiring methods, wire brand etc. before I would even think of pronouncing it as a bad deal. Way too many variables to consider. PM me the info on your system as planned out by that shop and I would be happy to pull it apart for you and see how it looks.

custom auto radio in whitby. just outside the gta.
they do great work, nothing amateur. they usually only have higher end cars in there (vettes, beamers, etc) (actually i sat in a lambo the last time i was there)
and they are fair pricing.
listen to MR2NR above, with a nice car like that, go to a reputable shop that will cover/gaurentee their work.
