Sealing off trunk in a sedan?!?!
Well here goes.
I've tried just aiming my subs through the opening between the trunk and passenger cabin. I'm looking for ways to get cleaner sound, as well as possible a little louder when I want to show off. My trunk has yet to be sound deadened as well. Anyways, everytime I do it, it never works (too much cancellation).
If I would seal off my trunk properly... i.e. build a baffle to cover the whole back area, and fill any small holes with some non expanding foam or anything else for that matter, would I have much better luck? It seems like a big job, as I'd have to redo the rear deck, fit a baffle into the trunk the biggest I can fit in there, etc.
Would the difference be like night and day? It might just be my crappy subs, but since there was so much cancellation, I noticed alot of cone noise as well. I never really noticed it before when the subs were in the trunk. If I were to begin a project such as this, would a better set of subs be in order? (I've been thinking about new ones anyways... thinking of going more high end).
Almost forget, either way I go, I'm going to be running in a sealed box, I'm also trying to get back some lost trunk space... that is unless the new subs I get can be ported around 25hz, and not have too big of a box (I live in a dream world). My main goal isnt SPL. My next 2 purchases are going to be high end components, and then maybe subs. I plan to possibly compete in a couple SQ events if I ever bother to take the time to get some good imaging, and get used to 'natural' sounding bass (not likely, i like a little bit of beat to my music
)
Anyways, hope someone can help explain my problems!

Can you fire the subs and port through the rear parcel shelf? Some minimal cutting may be required, but if it's a sedan,than what I did in my car will work for you.
Altho in my car I'm only using 2-8's and firing through the rear deck, if you have larger subs, than try putting them on an angle, with a bass-vent, through the rear parcel shelf, add some neon lights, a fishbowl
et voila!
