Sirens for alarms...

Will any 12v siren work? I'm trying out a new theory....

...everyone and theyre dog has heard a car alarm. Most people find them annoying when going off at night, but think nothing of it.

..I found a 12v vintage fire engine siren. Apparently this thing is GOD AWFULY loud.

I think this may deter thieves more than a typical siren..

1) Is this legal?
2) Will this just hook right up like normal?

I've installed those before. They are ****ing loud! But they also take a shitload of power. You'll need to use a relay with 12 gauge wire to utilize it. I would either use a regular siren for the chirping sounds and that thing for wailing.
Illegal? maybe...Who cares. It's your investment that you're trying to protect.

I have a mini mechanical siren that I had in my Avenger along with 6 other sirens and car horns, both inside and outside the car. Yes, it was very distinctive when it went off! Those mech sirens do draw a lot of current though so yes use a relay and allow for at least 20 if not 30 amps of draw. It also won't rise and fall like an old time siren. It will just hold at full wail. They are neat though.
