Sound deadening materials in Canada

Hey guys,

I am looking for material to finish sound deadening my vehicle. Would like to source all my materials locally / cheaply. Ideally, this thread could be a collection of information for anyone to locally source materials.

I need 3 components (as most of you are aware):

1. Vibration Damper (butyl rubber - 80mil)

- I stupidly did 2 layers across the entire backseat, rear deck area, when ideally you should cover about 25% of all surfaces (anything greater will give deminishing returns, just adding weight). Anyone know where I can pick up affordable butyl sheets? I am thinking home depot / rona products or fatmat

2. Mass loaded Vinyl (1/8" all new materials)

- MLV with recycled material is too inconsitent. I got a quote from WalkersClub Canada Your Source For Everything Abatement for 200 sq/ft @ 336 ($1.68/ft^3)

- update (June 5, 2013): A place in Mississauga called Acoustiguard can supply MLV via a product called Noiseblock (@ 1.95 / ft^3). Still very pricy...

- update (June 5, 2013): Acoustiguard in Missisaugha also supplies a product called P1A. It has slightly less then 1/8" MLV backed by 1/4" CCF. The CCF layer may be thicker then what we need for most applications. This is pretty much the same product as the floor liner fatmat sells (and I am sure the other name brands sell something similar as well - Luxury Liner Pro).

- Anyone know where else I could get this stuff? The above price seems a bit high (compare at USD 140 in the US), and not sure I could use all 200ft^3.

3. CCF (closed cell foam, ideally 1/8")

- I need a source for this as well, ideally something pliable and thin. I am thinking some foam underlayment for floors may do the trick. What have people on here used?

- update (June 5, 2013): I did some research and it seems to be we could use felt instead. When we get to 1/8" layers of CCF, the decoupling characteristics of CCF will not hold when the adhesive is applied on both sides. Alternatives: felt, or 1/4" or greater size of CCF.

I used the old brownbead stuff in my last car. Great product. Although I think Fatmat provides better value.

so I found another product that can be used to decouple the MLV. Its a combination of cork and foam found here:

ECO CORK FOAM | ECO CORK FOAM Combo Underlayment for Laminate and Engineered Wood Floors, 75 SQ. FT. Roll | Home Depot Canada

Eco Cork Foam. The advantage of this product is that it can be used to create a barrier to sound as well.

The disadvatage is that its much more pricy. CCF at 1/8" will cost around $25/100ft^3. This stuff costs $50/75ft^3. Its a toss up to whether or not its worth it.

Good information here: http://www.floorone.com/informative/laminate/underlayment.asp
