Status - looking for an hour between classes, work and family to play around with this. Hopefully Wednesday Afternoon will be free. I hope I can find a better place to mount than under the seat (my tweeter wire won't be long enough for that and I don't really want to solder more wire onto it - but if that gets rid of the sound, so be it) Hopefully I'll get a shot on Wednesday Aft.
John, do I understand you right?
With some tin-foil I could possibly solve this problem without re-locating the x-over? So If I wrap the body of the x-over in tin foil (I know to steer clear of the terminals) I might be able to solve the problem?
If it means anything, the Comps are Polk EX3.

Thanks for the Help.

Foil will only block capacitivly induced noise caused by high voltage sources (ie transformer in a neon light ect..)

You can identify that type of noise as static...

What you desribe is inductivly induced noise.... Try moving the Xovers as Dukk suggests... why do you need to soldier the wire ? A simple dice and splice is fine if you ask me...

It doesn’t matter if you are talking radiation, light, sound or electricity…. distance and shielding is distance and shielding. In this case simply having conductive shielding essentially emulates increased distance and the inverse square laws apply. The inductive force (EMF) can be decreased by making the flux do work and by reshaping the magnetic field... not saying it is a guarantee fix all but Maltese wants a simple answer if possible... AND I am all about simple. Whereas Dukk and Haunz are obsessed with correct answers...

^ Outstanding article to expand on what Dukk, Haunz is saying and what I am saying (Dukk is depending on experience while I am focusing on the art of luck).

I think the foil might be worth the 5 minutes to test it (don’t forget trying the foil grounded or ungrounded) BUT BE CAREFULL don’t short out the electrical system or you speakers.

FIXED!

IT took about 10 - 15 minutes to unscrew, and move around with the engine running until I found a quiet spot. It is now in a very well protected location - a hollowed out cavity of steel under a a dummy pedal / footrest. The only disappoint ment about the location is that I could not screw it in place, but it is under the carpet and floor matting so it will not be able to slide down further.

Oh - I never attempted the foil. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to fix it just with distance. It was interesting playing with the distance from the fuse panel. It was about 2" from the fuse panel and the buzz was moderate to slight. The closer I moved it to the panel the more obnoxios the buzz became.

Now the x-over is about 5" from the panel and there is no noise - not that I can hear anyway -that's with my ear tight to tweeter, so I'm golden. Unfortunately, when the buzz disappeared, so did that cool alternator whine that made my car sound like it was super-charged

Thanks for the help
