Question Which speakers to install?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and to car audio related things but I recently got a 2005 nissan wingroad and I changed the deck from the standard factory to a Sony CDX-GT55UIW and now I need to change the front door speakers as one has busted and the door vibrates (on the side with the good speaker) when I turn up the volume. The person who I went to has 6 1/2 inch door speakers in a few brands but told me that of the ones he has Clarion and JVC are the best.
I took the serial # of both to do research and find reviews before going to install it (I want to do it Monday) but not having much luck. I like to listen a lot of old school dancehall and reggae but I listen to other genres as well so I am hoping to get some insight on which would be a better choice between the JVC CS-v627 and Clarion SRE1601R speakers. They are both costing the same price to purchase and install. I would also love to know why you would choose "x speaker" to install so I could have more insight. I know I could probably get better speakers but I need to save more for that and just want to change out these speakers asap. May even look into getting extra speakers in the future but for now just want to stick within my budget while getting nice sound quality and a bit of durability with the new speakers.
Thank you in advance taking the time to help.

Honestly, those seem like ridiculously low-end speakers.. where are you buying from?

My recommendation; If you can get ahold of a pair of these locally you'll be quite happy for only $80, even though they're 5.25".

Or even these would likely sound twice as good.

Morning, thanks for the reply. I am actually buying from a place which installs car alarms as well as decks and speakers. So the cost is covering the speakers and installation and fits my pocket atm. I was considering looking around and did go to a couple places but with school not so much time to do that plus some of the prices are pretty steep at those other places which is why I was considering saving to add on extra speakers to my vehicle in the future to help my music sound better and just go with what I could afford right now. The speakers you recommended, especially the Kenwood looks very appealing to me so I am going to take down both products info. and try to look around during any free time I have next week to see if I can get those here (Trinidad) and if it is within my current budget. Because these things are usually imported the prices are hyped up in local currency (plus I'll have to put out for installation) so although these are both within my budget if I were to buy from the net, S&H to Trinidad may still end up killing me, Hoping I can find them here or something at least similar, which will also fit my pocket. Thanks again for the reccs. Will post an update on this and what I find and still wouldn't mind others opinions, reccs, etc.

Ah I got'cha. Try to look for speakers around 75w+ RMS, you won't be putting that much power through from your deck but it's a good general indicator of quality. Decent aftermarket co-axial speakers from a store should run you about $80-120, components about $140-200 CDN, although they may be more where you live..

Goodluck!

Thanks Colton. Your information is very useful. I understand why you recommended the Energy speakers before the Kenwood now. I will keep in mind to look at the RMS. Is there anything else I should look for? I noticed the Energy was a 2-way and the Kenwood is a 3-way, does this affect the sound quality with the RMS being different ranges?

I did see a 3-way speaker at the install shop but the owner recommended me the 2-way cause he said that 3-way contained 2 tweeters so it made more sense to go with the 2 way in this case. Since I will be going elsewhere to look what should I look for when looking at components in a 3 way speaker? I was reading up the definitions on the specs. of the links you gave me too which is why I came back to ask this. Thanks again.

No problem! Personally I haven't looked into or heard many 3-way speakers so I can't really comment on them, I've always had two sets of two-way and sub(s). As for other specs to consider there is sensitivity, size of tweeter and material of cone, among other things but with speakers for someone who's just going to be running deck power, definitely go to a local audio shop or two if possible and listen for yourself. Everyone's ears are slightly different and what sounds great to one may sound average to another, speakers made from different material and using different sized tweeters will sound much different tonally. and be sure to ask them to switch the demo speakers to only deck power as they'll probably show them off amp'd; running 5x the power you will be in your car, unless you decide to amp yours later on.

Also- along with how the Energy 5.25" are rated for more RMS power, the main reason why I personally recommended was because I have two sets of Energy 6.5" components right now and believe they sound and perform amazingly for the price range, and you won't be able to find them anywhere anymore soon. :P

Thanks for all the advice Colton. I have some free time today so I will be going to a few car audio shops. I will take all your advice into consideration while I am looking for and listening to the speakers.

I went looking around yesterday and I came across one that sounds amazing! It's the Hybrid Audio Mirus M61-2 6.5" speakers and it is a little more than I currently budgeted for - $300ttd more. Plus of course I'll still have to pay to install it but I feel that these speakers would be worth the extra cash. I still have another audio place I wanted to visit but didn't get the time to go so I dunno if I'll come across something better there. But this particular place really took their time to help me and I told them the type of music I listen to so they tested the speakers with that genre for me. They also showed me a speaker which they said is the 2nd best in the lineup and is actually closer to my current budget (especially if I only planned to use deck power) but side by side, you can totally tell the difference of the sound quality coming from them. I believe the other was JBL brand. Thanks to your advice I actually found that I do want to put an amp in my car. I wouldn't have thought to ask them to play the music on deck power only if you hadn't advised me to do so. I got to say I was underwhelmed with the way the music sounded with only deck power but amped up it was amazing and the mirus speakers were even more alluring when amped up, no way the JBL could compare. So right now, I have my sights set on the mirus speakers till I go to another audio place. I feel it would be totally worth it to put out the extra money for the better sounding speakers and then eventually buy an amp. Which will bring me to my next question on how to choose an amp. The guy recommended I choose something at least half decent if I choose to buy the mirus speakers and not some cheapo amp. I am considering buying my amp. from the net since a relative of mine will be traveling in June - it's just to find out if they'd bring it for me. So I'd like to know if you know about the mirus speakers - are they good speakers generally? and 2. Amp. reccs. I wouldn't mind buying a good amp. if I am buying on the net cause I think they would be obviously cheaper than if I bought it here. Later on I will think about putting in a bass speaker in the back. I have realized it might be a little time to change out my music if I want it to sound good but in the end it will be worth the wait IMO

I'm glad you found something you really liked! I've never seen those speakers before and couldn't find the specs but if you're considering amp'ing them with something good quality, this would work great- http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ch-P400-2.html

100w RMS x 2 for $200 + shipping, and they recommend a 4g wiring kit for it, although you could probably easily get away with using 8g; I'm running 65w x 4 on 8g no problem.

If you decide to get an amp locally, I would look for between 75-125w RMS per channel (x2), normally if you buy the amp there they'll give you a deal on install so it might end up being cheaper to go local if you're not installing yourself anyway

Morning . I got to admit I had a hard time finding it online too but I found 1 which had it in a .pdf so I'll C&P the specs.

Hybrid Audio Mirus M61-2 6.5" Coaxial Speakers

Overall Diameter 165.5mm
Mounting Depth 63 mm
Bolt Circle Diameter 155.7 mm
Mounting Hole 142 mm
Recommended Minimum Highpass Crossover Frequency (fourth order) 65 Hz
Frequency Response 55Hz-22KHz +/-3dB
Efficiency 2.83 V/ 1 meter 92.6 dB
Continuous Power Handling (transient music input) 80 watts
Peak Power Handling (musical transient peak power handling)150 watts
Recommended Power Range 10-100 watts
Nominal Impedance 4 ohms

While looking around the net for specs. on the mirus speakers I have come across a few people saying they are really good and from what I have heard with my own ears I got to agree. I haven't found anything else I liked as much as that one so I think I will get a pair of those at the end of the month. As for the amp. I will have to find out the cost to install one before I go ordering online. I did see the rockford fosgate amp in 1 store but they only had the 4 channel one and the cost was almost $600usd (when I convert currencies from ttd) so even if the amps might seem expensive online and the cost to install on top of that I may still come out spending less in the end if I bought online. But we will see since I haven't spoken to my relative yet and it will be all the way in June if they agree.
