Yeah I know I need to flip the amp guys, that's on my todo list for this weekend

I had a cap that I needed to install anyways, it's not like I was having this problem then was like 'omg, let's go buy a cap! that'll fix it!' lol..

So this weekend I'll fab something up, I'll find room somewhere to put my amp, and I'll make a good home for the cap too when I do it.

Thanks again for all the advice, I'll post again sat/sun after I remount the amp

Ok so I mounted my amp up top so it's facing upwards, and it's still cutting out, not as early as it was before but it still is.

Guess I'll have to start saving for that JL Audio 1000/1v2 I've been eying. Figure that ones a good choice because I can run my subs at 4 Ohm and still get 1000W RMS to them. Just sucks that they are listed at $1,149 new

Hmmmm...is there sufficient clearance between the amp and the surrounding area...meaning is there space around, and on top of it? The fact that it's not cutting out as soon is telling me it's a thermal issue.

Bunch of people are selling 1000/1's right now in the for sale section of the forum for cheap. you can also go with the alpine PDX route, if you wanna keep with the alpine theme

Well if that has helped the problem, then it does sound like a thermal issue as Denonite said. So, you can further help the problem by adding fans or other cooling devices. If possible, open up the amp and see if there is a place where you can create some air vents. Have one fan blowing air in on one side, and another fan pulling the air out on the other side. You can easily do that for $15-$20, a far cry from $1200.

I'm not sure how old/new this Kenwood amp is but I do know that when some of their amps get hot, they are designed to play 4db quieter. I had a friend with home audio kenwood that said he'd be playing music for awhile and then it would just play quieter... something to look into, I think their new amplifiers have that design...
