hi, when i get my other amp hooked up i was thinking i'd try to make it look a bit nicer in my trunk. i was thinking of carpeting the 3' x 4' piece of MDF that i'm using curently to mount my subs and amp.. and routering out part of it in a rectangle shape and building down a bit underneath it for my amps, and putting some plexi across the top of the rectangle and making it look right pretty.. like alot of people do.

now when it comes to the spacious part of the trunk (i only have 1 12" in a 1.6 cu/ft box) there's alot of empty space on either side of the box and a little bit on top. if i was to add a beauty board (cut to fit around either side and across the empty space at the top of the box) and make it all fit nice and carpet that as well, would that mess with my SQ at all? the box is currently ported towards the back of the car, but i may be going with a single sealed 12 in the future. would the beauty board idea be better for the sealed system? i really want to make a clean looking install and it just doesn't do it for me with all that empty space

the car is a '94 Cavalier coupe by the way, with folding rear seats.

thanks for any ideas or input!
Kev

it's not hard to do, just take your time and make sure of every cut. one suggestion that I have is to make a cardboard mock-up, it's a LOT cheaper and easier to cut than MDF.

Lol, I thought you meant a new section to the forum named "Beauty Board" where we could post car udio related pics.

Bob and Doug would approve: "Beauty, eh".

^ lol

cool.
so i would assume though that in either sealed or ported situation, the beauty board would probably make me lose a few dB.. what about the SQ? i want it to look good, but would having the box kind of "enclosed" like that would that hurt my SQ at all?

shouldn't hurt your SQ in any way, I can't see any reason that it would.

cool.. just was concerned that maybe the sound waves coming off the cone may become trapped in the trunk so all i get in the car is the resonance from the box itself.

thanks for the info!
