what would cause my car to louder with the trunk open?

this is a weird problem im having with my car... it is fully sound deadened with bedliner on the floor and 2 layers of mats on every surface minus half the firewall... i transferred my system from my older car and put it in the new one... however the sub sounds almost non existant... however when i open the trunk (w/ all windows and doors closed) it sounds just like it did in the old car... ive tried switching the direction of the sub with not much change... the kicker here is that the old car and the new car are identical besides a dash change... every other panel in the car is practically the same... the only other real difference is that the old car didnt have a much deadening... only 1 layer of mat on the doors and trunk...
also does the same thing happens when a door is open but not to the same level...
so whats the problem and how do i fix it?

only one sub... however the 4 channel amp is just using a stereo rca input (2 channels instead of 4)... its got a switch to use let the mono section of the amp use the front channels as input... the stock rear speakers are in place however not being powered...
and furley, if you read a little more carefully you would see that i said i did switch directions of the sub already... the ironic thing about that is the sub was facing forward in my old car and to the rear in my new car and the old car is twice as loud as my new car...

Try moving the sub closer to the tail lights, referably on the passenger side.
The sound travelling from the sub to the rear of the car, and then bouncing back takes time. This puts the reflected wave out of phase with the primary wave.
When you open the trunk, the "reflected" wave escapes the vehicle, and no longer cancels the primary wave.
Getting the two waves together will result in them reinforcing each other, for an increase in gain, instead of a decrease.
The reason it's worse in this car, is that you've done a better job deadening, thus strengthening the reflected wave. Shows just how effective a few good layers can be.
