so...off topic, bastards at work were talkin about this, but wouldn't tell me why or what it's all about. Furthermore i apparenlty don't watch the news as i'm clueless. But i'm from alberta. Why are we apparently getting $400 rebates?

 

The reason is because they know everyone will turn around and spend it which will help out the economy. You guys can keep your 400 bucks. I'll take my view, weather and bud over 400 bucks anyday!

We are getting rebates, because of the massive surplus of cash the gov't has recieved from the profits of oil production in Alberta. Even at $400 per person, they will still have a major surplus that will go towards other things, like schools, transportation (ie. roads), and hospitals.

If this is all true and I'm supposed to get this cheque,what happens if I owe back taxes?Will I still get the money in hand or will it just be taken off my owed taxes?

Hopefully it will be cash in hand...
