I get pretty excited when I see 3 kb/s.Telesat is supposed to be offering two way satellite internet for cheaper than the other companies in the spring. I won't hold my breath, though. No cable...no DSL...and I'd have to chop down a giant old maple in my front yard to get line-of-site microwave.

I just recently moved out to Orleans though. Now I have Cable. Rogers Extreme actually </font>
Rogers Extreme is sweet! To bad I fell behind in payments with them now I am with Dial up!, What kinda speeds where you getting I would see the most 600 k/sec...It was soo nice like 200 meg files 5 min download times...Dsl holds no comparison to Cable.

I'm on Dial-up, at 48-50K on my PC and 56+K on my laptop.
Since I don't download like I used to(how does that song go.., "The thrill is gone..,"), and I just use to surf some sites for info and get email, and occasionally chat with friends on ICQ &MSN (Miranda Chat), I don't need DSL nor the monthly bills, tho it's great when I network @ go to friends to play games on line.

Maybe the phone companies out around your area have something like that?

I'm on cable. Shaw or whoever it is in edmonton at the moment. They're not huge fan's of me cause apparenlty i downloaded a lot and uploaded a lot, enough to be in the top 1% of edmonton (i thought maybe i'd get a prize) they just wanted to straight out expel us from the service. Since then i've just stopped uploading which i think was their biggest issue. And everyone appears to be happy. We run 4 pc's off a wireless rtr, and my landlords pay for it, cause they had it when we got here. I disklike dial up modems all together. I just dislike that physical piece of hardware not to mention what it does or tries to do and does very weakly.
Depending on the site i'd say about 500KB/s is average. Gotten all the way up to 1.2MB/s down. But if downloading an OS from microsoft or similar, it's about 500KB, 20m for 500MB or so.
Man if the one dude thats on Comcast cable in the states on here woulda told me he was on Comcast when i worked for them...well i woulda given you free internet, and probably given you like a 4MB downstream (384k up) configuration file (assuming you currenlty only have a 3MB config file.)

I'm on Shaw. I think in the last 7years I have been without service twice for a total of maybe 6 hours and the second time was because they were upgrading all the stuff in my area (well, as it turns out...in my front yard)
I went cable as DSL was not quite here yet. If I was starting fresh today I'm not sure which way I would go.
