If he does it righ tthey wil pack one hell of a punch, About three years ago in my area a guy was making a mini pipe bomb using just match heads and it went of some how and took of a good chunk of his hand.
The key is pressure, open the amp upand tape rows of fire crackers across the ciruit board drill a small hole in the case and run the fuses through there.

 

yes, you can make a pipe bomb with just baking soda and vinegar, even, if you work it properly..

My friends once combined Chlorine (for swimming pools) and milk in a 2 liter plastic bottle and then capped it. Suffice it to say that this created a huge chemical reaction that blew up the bottle, emitted very toxic fumes and got them arrested.
Stunts like this usually end up in bodily injury and/or trouble with the law.
