ask her at the special place that every couple has, the first date restaurant, the first place you met something like that. my wife asked me to marry her less than a month after we met and we were married less than a year after that, 2 years and still going strong. i always wanted to ask some woman to marry me, but now i'll never get the chance, kind of a bummer but im really happy either way. whatever you do, talk to your father before and dont do something cheesy like at a hockey game of something public like that

Dave - you can still propose to women, just don't let the wife know
lol, as for my tale - I was at my dad's second wedding with my steady of 4+ years and I turned to her and said, "So we gonna get married or what?"
We had already been living together for a year so it's not like it wasn't inevitable anyway...

Personally I think telling anyone about it before hand is stupid. That's great that you respect her parents and all but, it's like what would you do if her father didn't approve? Not marry her? LOL! I think the GF should be the first one informed since she and you are the two that are getting married. One of my closest friends got married about six months ago and he asked her and she accepted. And then they shared the news with the rest of the world.
My wife and I decided before eanyone else knew that we wanted to get married, then we waited a while, got some plans together, then told everyone. of course before our "official" engagement, I had to ask her dad, so I did, and he was like "yeah, sure, you're a good guy" (her mom told me that I'm the only guy any of her girls have brought home that isn't useless)
anyways... my official proposal was on the beach, we had a nice dinner (that I cooked) after I picked her up from work, then I kneeled in front of her, and asked her to marry me. (apparently she said yes )

whats the big deal with everyone's old man??? i personally dont give 2 shizz about what my old man or anyone else on either side of the family thiks?? i'd get married even if everyone said no. honestly what is the big deal about listening to your parents on such matters as marriage or anything else that is important.
heh... when my finance finally told her dad that I bought her a ring, his buddy asked me 'wen't you supposed to ask first?'
seeing as how she was 2monthes prego at the time, I didn't think it mattered...
