I'd like to build a computer from scratch. My Compaq is on the fritz yet again. I only have a budget of $200, either build a Pc or buy a PS2. I'd rather have a working pc.

It would be only for the internet, music, and movies, I don't do alot of online gamimg at all. I know $200 is a low budget, but I can go up to $230ish also, but I'd prefer to keep it closer to $200.

I already have monitor, speakers, etc. I only need to build the tower portion.

Suggestions are welcome.

sorry but $200 is not enough for a computer. My suggestion would be to save up some more money and then buy a computer from Best Buy or Future shop as they have some pretty decent computers in the $400-$600 range.

Or maybe you can look for a used computer, you might find something in your price range.

^ exactly... I wouldn't bother piecing one together unless I found a really good deal on a board/tower... probably better to cruise some classifieds and find something used...

My women said she saw a P3 1ghz for $150 not too long ago...

check the newspaper or the bargain finder!!!

won't be able to build one or buy one from a company for that low, you'd need probably at least $300, and then there's the monitor...about $140 brand new.

Case - $40
Decent Video card - $50
Decent Sound card - $40
Motherboard - $80
Ram - Depends on what u want if u dont wanna die waiting forever for things to load you'll buy good ram
XP unless it falls off the back of a truck or you have a friend that can lend it to you its gonna cost you $100
Hard Drive - $100
Floppy drive (if you so need one) - $14
CD Rom - $50
So far I'm at $434 not including taxes and these are approximates.
You can piece together the rest.

Your best bet is to find some pieces that have fallen off the back of a truck to succeed with this one or look for a used one, If you wanna paying shipping I'm sure I could ask about havin one whipped up for you for $200-$250 for the specifics that you asked only.
