Computer Gurus: Help needed deleting file

It would appear I've downloaded a bad music file. The file isn't even a MP3 file but instead it is a JPEG file and I wasn't paying attention when I clicked on the download. The file doesn't open and it doesn't delete. It just stays there no matter what I try to do to it.

How do I get it off my computer?
Thanks

That jpeg you downloaded from limewire (im assuming), is actually a virus. Use any type of anti-virus you have to try and get rid of it. If not I'll link a few things.

I have Norton and it doesn't pick it up when I scan.

I'm kinda computer illiterate and don't know how to start up in safe mode

restart window and hit f8 before the window login, that will take you to the comand promp, then go in to safe mode.

I would try renaming the file and then delete it. if it wont let you hit Ctrl Atl Del and see if it is running in Task Manager.

Well this is a start. Try this online scan, it's free, finds most garbage, and hopefully can fix your problem. It isn't geared towards viruses, but should get trojans and all that other good stuff.

Next, is another online free scan that works fairly fast. The reason I'm suggesting to you online free scans is for the simple fact they are fast, it isn't a trial version, and you can use it later on as well. This is a fairly well known anti virus, and has done well for me in the past.

So far I've had no luck.

The first two links found a few cookies to delete but that's about it.

I've got the quick virus/trojan search from Avast running now while I head out to work.

Any more suggestions?
Thanks for the help so far.

My problem is usually to diagnose problems I'd have to be there. Usually files that cannot be deleted are sources that are currently running (such as a process, or a virus/trojan). If you can take a screen shot of all your processes running (if you hit control alt delete, and click the processes tab and check the box that says "show proccesses from all users") I can help you identify the virus/trojan, and than hopefully delete him, if he is actively running.

The reason you cannot delete the file is because your computer runs it on startup... and you cant delete running processes. You can use the program hijackthis to take it off your startup processes, or do it manually through your registry editor (type regedit in the command promt, hit start\run) or use the selective startup option (type msconfig in the command promt) and start unchecking startup proccesses\services that seem like viruses (first google the process that seems suspicious)

After you have done so, boot up in safe mode and delete the file after, and any of its counterparts. If it automatically puts itself in the startup processes again after you have disabled it, you got even bigger problems that can be fixed but with greater difficulty.

I recommend also doing the trend micro house call scan to identify your problem aswell.

When you find out which virus and process you have, post them... i might be able to help you some more.
