Current State of the Automotive Industry
Well, as I'm sure many have heard that Chrysler has filed chapter 11 in the USA as part of their restructuring and to enable the Fiat acquisition.

Chrysler closes 2 Ontario plants
Chrysler's Ontario assembly plants in Windsor and Brampton shut down
indefinitely on Friday, a byproduct of the company's bankruptcy
protection filing the day before in the United States, the company has
confirmed.
-------------------------
GM has dropped Pontiac this week as well to shift their entire focus on GMC, Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac.
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts/projections of the future hold. Not sure if there is anyone else out there keeping up on any of this, or if they are in the automotive industry like myself. It's a rough year, but I think eventually things will get back up there. Maybe not the same as they were in the past, but definitely back on track. I hope

I lost my job from the automotive industry. Chrysler decided that the company I worked for could combine a few plants into one. So that led to 18 management jobs being chopped, including mine and don't remember how many hourly. I've been laid off since September with no sign of a decent paying job on the horizon...
My mother in law is a line worker at Windsor Assembly. She has been employed there for almost 15 years and is now losing her job. She will also likely loose her home as she can not afford her bills on unemployment. Also she feels like who's going to hire a 60 year old woman?
To make matters worse, the people being laid off as part of the midnight shift elimination thought they had 2 months to get ready for this. Then last night and today, they hear that the plant is closing tonight... So much for saving ... she will be putting her home up soon and if it sells be moving in with us, otherwise she'll have no choice but to hand over the keys.. not a good way to loose a home you've paid on for 11 years...

Oh! I see what you mean. That is harsh! I wish your family the best and I'm sure things will work out in the end. I have some family moving in with me at the end of the month as well as they can't afford to live on their own either. It's a very rough time for many.
