Dog Help, need to pick

im looking for something thats medium to large (but not too large) size, short hair, prefferably black/dark colored, can be kept out doors and used as a guard/protector dog.

the obviouse ones are rotwiler and doberman, is there anything else that falls into that category??

labrador retriever, my sister just got one in july and they're amazing dogs all around and especially loyal.



That's from July-Now, I think he was born in early June.

geta doberman....expensive but very intelligent dogs....its all in the breeding though...

Without going totally off on you, RESEARCH the breed thoroughly, then research the dog, then research it's background. Head to the shelter and see what great dogs they may have that need new homes.

mr2nr well yah that is what im planning to do, first i need a list of dogs that fit the description i provided. so without totally goin off on you, i CANT research the breed b/c i HAVENT picked one yet. but thank u for your time

Doberman's can't live outdoors in our climate. They don't have an undercoat whereas Rottweillers do. I would think a Rottweiller would be your best bet for the outdoor/guard combination.

I would recommend a Fila dog ( Brazilian mastiff ) but I'm not sure about the undercoat for outdoor living.

ex, thanks for the heads up.

now im down to rottweiller and ridgback. doberman will die and i need something with more killer instinct than labrador.

what are those short haird german sheppards called?
