Both of my Rotties are shelter found. Both worked out well. I did ensure they weren't fighting dogs though.

What are everyone's reasons for not adopting a former fighting dog?

Is it that it would be too much work for you?

My inlaws adopted a rottie bitch that was scheduled to be put down. She was almost a year old when they brought her home. Rotties are not usually used for fighting.

most of the dogs in Toronto shelters are pits or pit mixes, and i mean all of them. I really dont need a pit (althought a great dog) especially an ex fighting one.

I was meaning just the thought off all those pitts in the shelters. I don't like that thought.

Knowing that a good majority are going to be put down makes me sick, and just the fact that the shelters are filled with pitts/mixes. Toyrantula would have experienced input here.

Some of your comments **** me off. I don't think you should own a dog. I know you are not going to like me saying that, but i'm intitled to my opinion.

Don't take this personal, because like I said before, I don't think that 98% of people should own a dog of whatever breed. That's just the way I feel and nothijng is going to change that. I tell this right to peoples faces all the time whether they like it or not. I've seen some things as of late that just get me going.

I'm off to pick up a fridge and stove, so i'll read what's happening with this thread later.

Yuli, keep asking questions is the very best thing that you can do right now. Some dogs in shelters can easily be retrained, others will take some work and others there just may be no hope. Work with the shelter and the resources available to you, like this one, and you will come out of this a much better dog companion.
