Doug I read through several sources when I first got my burner that the Negative DVD R's were better all around, especially for movies as most dvd players read the format more often than dvd +

 

Yes almost all play -R, but the technology for the +R is better I found more articles showing Pros for the + R media then -R specially for movies or anything in that matter. Even that last article shows exactly how the media is burned, +R is burned in a more even flow compare it to sin wav then a dc current which is better?

Dave, yeah Dvd-rom and burner would be the best bet but not really needed, dvd shrink for example will auto rip to the hard drive anyway even if you burn right to disk. But other programs you have to burn right away.

 

Will dual layer DVD burners burn onto single layers?

Seeing as the price is sooo cheap on those now, but the media is still pricey...could one just get a dual layer now and use single layer media?

 

Yes they will do single, there considered a multi layer format or something like that. So yes you can use single layer media right now.

Alot of stuff from tiger direct is refurb....long as it comes with 1 year manufacture warranty it's all good.

Nothing that I could see said that the Plextor was refurbed. Yes I know lots of stuff there is, but if it is refurbed it is marked as such.

I didn't see anything to do with refurb so looks pretty good, you can get the hp 630i for 129$ right no at staples... usually comes with 2 dvd media's RW and R
