I was wondering about that "psss" noise. Where's it come from, what's it for or doing by letting air out... Can anyone explain?
Whoever was at the dB Drag in Surrey last year in the spring, there was a super nice silver Supra. When I was driving home and it ripped passed and it had that noise and it was killer loud. The engine sounded like a damn snowmobile but it was rippin it up something crazy.

Turbo cars can make two different PSHHHHH sounds, but they are pretty different. The first on which all turbo cars will have is a wastegate, these regulate boost pressure. Basically bleed off any boost above a preset amount, this is the one you hear at wide open throttle. The second type of noise comes from a blowoff valve, not all turbo cars have them but they are a good idea. Basically when you close the throttle the boost can do nasty things as it now has nowhere to go, most times it can bend the throttle plate. this is the sound you here when someone lets off the throttle, and is usually much louder than a wastegate.
Simulating either is retarded.

Blow off valves are more or less a safety device,
(what Dereck said) Some cars come with quiet blow off valves, there are TONS of different ones available. I used to have a 1989 Ford Probe GT turbo, that was TONS of fun, and lots of goodies for it.
A great place to go if your looking for a Turbo toy is http://www.blowoffvalves.com
