I've never been to the track before, but i'm going to the 2009 Canadian Derby tomorrow. I've read up a lil on the types of bets, but still don't know a ton.

Any tips?

yes, go for ffunny names and Good jockeys, Buy the betting book for odds, and place your bets wisely. I love the track.

They give out all the odds on a pamphlet, but bought a program as well, which sorta helped. Who knew there was so much crap in those programs, took a bit just to figure a lil of it out.

Overall it was a ton of fun, though I didn't win anything big. Was pretty close on a pick-3, but the horse in the last race lost by a hair . I dunno what the payout woulda been, but i suspect a couple hundy.

You want a tip? Bet on the favorite to SHOW. Yes it is the worst odds like 3/5 bu the favorite is there for a reason and usually comes in. You have to get more aggressive with the bet amounts to go anywhere.

This past weekend I went to Woodbine raceway and hit 4/5 bets on more longshots like 8:1 and 35:1! Almost 5/5 with the last horse put $10 and it was 8:1 led the whole race until like the last 100m!
