How much $$ for power in an apartment?
Hey Folks,
In the process of selling my townhouse and thinkin about getting an apartment downtown. I believe i'll end up with a unit about 750sq ft or so. The complex covers the gas for the fireplace and BBQ, heat, water. I'm try'n to figure out what all is left after that? I'm aware of cable (tv/internet) and pricing, but not sure about the following:
Is gas used anywhere else, or does that depend partially on some appliances?
Power....how much can that be?
Thanks for any info you folks can offer.

Are you buying the condo or renting? If buying, be sure to pay close attention to the 'maintenance' fees. That will include the cost for the 'free' gas, heat (hot water baseboard heating?) and hot water. Power will just be what is used by your stove, fridge, lighting and outlets. When I was renting an apt that had a simliar situation to this I was paying less than $40 for electricity and the unit had electric baseboards. We hardly ever turned the heat on because we were between the 1st and 3rd floor tenants, which helped keep our place warm. What was great was the central hot water. Endless showers! Not good for the owners who lived there though and paid $278 for maintenance fees.

I'm just renting. I'm not sure I want to have to put up with really any maintenance anymore or condo board BS anymore. Plus I dunno the bank would give me the money to buy it, let alone whether I could afford a mortgage for it plus utilities.
Glad to hear around $40. I've sorta been budgeting $80, so I should be in the clear!!!

It really shouldn't be too much. When I had my apartment I believe I was paying around $75 a month for electricity as I had several computers and such on the go
I miss thouse days. I now pay $180 / month for my house
