it also has to do with the make and model of the car. Get away from any sort of compact, especially a civic and the price will go down. pick a larger car and the price will go down. It also has to do with the chances of you getting hurt in a crash, and you "toying " with the car. Anything 4 door will decrease the price. my first car was a 88 1/2 ton truck. Because it was cheaper then the eclipse i wanted by 300 dollars a month.

Remember your a "young male" your gonna get screwed anyway.

Im not sure how this works for any one outside of AB but I would assume that it isn't much different any where else...

In AB, no matter whom is quoting you, you end up on facility... that is where all the drivers that are deemed high risk are placed. If any driver on facility is in an accident, then the accident is "funded" or paid for my a pool of money that all private companies contribute to using the premium of the total drivers on facility pay into. By that method, no one insurance company needs to accept the risk of a single high risk driver.

Your issue is only simple... your history indicates that you're a statistically horrible insurance risk. If your parents insure you and you do something else (even get a ticket) then even your parent's car insurance can be cancelled. I hope you know that when you ask them to do this for you or i hope that the insurance company explains that to them.

The only way to drop your rates is to drive clean for 3 years and accident free for up to 6 years.

Oh... and I pay $100 per month on a corvette Z06

BE CONFIDENT. Those test dudes see hundreds, if not thousands of people per year. You cannot have a cocky attitude (They hold all the cards, not you) but confidence rubs off. People don't like to be around other nervous people. Its irritating.

They will have you sized up in the first 10 seconds. If you project a nervous attitude then they will pick up on it, trust me.

Getting familiar with the vehicle is a must. Frankly, if the guy thinks you're a moron (not saying you are) he might find a reason to fail you regardless. I CANT STAND nervous drivers. I'd rather get out of the damn car and call a cab personally.

Also, keep quiet. Running off at the mouth is a sure sign of being nervous (LEO's live for this). He doesn't care about your work/school/insurance/stereo, etc. He has another 10 of you to get through before he gets to go home. If hes the talkative type (doubtful) then you can just politely mention you have to concentrate.

Now you might think I'm talking out my ***, but I have been on the planet a few years (say 51). Doesn't mean much, but just trying to help.

The most I paid for insurance was on my 2001 Hyundai Accent GSi. 106Hp, 108ft.lb of torque. That car was $350/month, about $16 less than the car payment.

Its gradually gone down over the years. I now drive a 2002 Hyundai Elantra, that I bought new, and pay $98/month for this vehicle.

I also have my comprehensive and deductible at $1000 each to lower my premium.

I'm getting married this year, hopefully it'll go down again.
