We've been trying to link 2 boxes up so we can do some 4 on 4 Halo. I have network/cat 5 cable and etc..we connect them together and it doesn't detect. Mind you, this is our first time trying to do this. Is there any trick we have to do to get the x boxes to work, or do we maybe need a router to get them working?

We also followed the directions on how to set it up on the x box website and still nothing.

Do you have two copies of Halo? You need two copies of any game that you want to link. I am assuimg you do as this is usually obvious. But, since you didn't mention anything about it I figured I'd ask.

EDIT: Also I'd suggest trying a different cable to connect them. If you haven't already.

To link to PC's together using network cable only you need a cross-over cable. (same as a normal cat 5 network cable but is marked cross-pver cable and has some wires swicthed inside.

maybe you are using the wrong type of cable for it. do you have the actual 'xbox' brand wire, or just one you had lying around? you need to make sure that is a crossover cable, it should say on it if it is or not. but to check, just look at both ends, and the colors of the wires should not be in the same order at both ends.

example: if the order of the colored wires on one end are Brown Brown, Green, Blue Blue, Green, Orange Orange, then they should be in a different pattern on the other end.

maybe like this: Brown Brown, Orange, Blue Blue, Orange, Green Green. where the green and the orange have switched places.

hopefully that helps ya out, if not, then i guess the wire isnt the problem. good luck.

^^ Yeah I forgot it's gotta be crossover cables. Reg Ethernet cables will not work.
