I tend to agree that 'mais' spray is a bad idea. I mean really, how powerful is corn juice anyways
Nothing beats a boot to the rollers and thebest part is it can't be taken away and used against you

.... also agree on the self defense course.
First of all mace is a chamical formula and is considered a prohibited weapon just like knuckes, switch blades, ect.
Bear and dog capcium pepper sprays are both avialable at most gun stores in ontario. Bearguard (common brand) comes in 34+ oz cans of 2.5% capcium pepper and is legal to carry in your vehicle or keep in your home... however, you are strickly prohibited from carrying on your person... as mentioned, you probably wouldn't want to anyway...
The dog sprays come in like 3-5g containers of .5% capcium pepper and are effective indoors (no wind) of up to 12-15".... And believe me, although it's not as hot as the 5-15% sprays you can buy in the states... it will still do a good number on a person....
I've been blasted directly in the face at 10 or so feet for about a second and for 45min I could barley breath let alone open my eyes... (done for testing purposed... well, redneck fun anyway... )
IMO... The stuff isn't very hard to use at all and can be extremly effective for self defense for almost anyone.... your friend will just want to practice spraying the can once or twice to get an idea of what it will do and use common scence...
Now the stuff is prohbited for use against a person, but there is no way you'd ever be charged if you used it for self defense where you feared for you or someone else's saftey....
I actually plan on getting myself and my girl cans of the 10% stuff in the states and switching the lables to the weeney .5% stuff incase we ever run into john law with them....

2 words, telescopic baton
i used to have one of the old police issue wooden nightsticks under the drivers seat of my car, that just the sight of that has changed some minds when it comes to people wanting to play bigshot, and then its an opportunity for an exit
but thats just me, so yea if she can swing one like sosa its a decent investment,

Training is also needed to use baton effectively. A lot of the training for the police is for "weapon retention" because people tend to try grab them from you. It is concidered "lethal force" to use a baton on a person when you target it above their shoulders. The police are trained to target everywhere but the head.
Its difficult to deploy this weapon quickly unless you have a holster for it. Otherwise you have to reach into your purse and retreive it. The length makes it difficult to conceal comfortably in your belt or pants pocket.
Again if you are to purchase one of these in the US and bring it into Canada you are taking your chances should it ever be found by the police.
A wooden fish club however is perfectly legal. Get them at Cdn. Tire.
