^ That is another thing to consider: batteries.
MP3 players are getting so mega tiny that a single AAA is all you get in most of them and it doesn't last long. Buy a better Sony MD player and you get good life out of the rechargables plus you can slide on AAs if needed.
I agree - if buying an MD only get a Sony. And I never knew about the Type R ones - I'm not on the sales floor anymore. That's kickass

I have a creative Nomad II... with 128mb memory... the new ones have 128 on board and you can add another 128 for pretty cheap. My old one has an FM tuner the new ones do now. Also it takes on AA and last over 8hours of play time. And if you use the play central and rip from your cd at something like 56k the songs still sound great and you can fit a butt load on there... Also there is a wired remote so you can have the player in a pocket or bag and use the wired remote to adjust volume track and such..
Built in EQ or custom settings and set to lineout instead of headphone to use in your car or home...

Definitely minidisc if you're on any sort of budget. Another minidisc is like 3 bucks, how much is a flash/mmc/smart media card? And the battery lasts forever. I've had mine for like 6 months and i've changed the battery like 3-4 times. Minidisc transfer is pretty slow though, but you can have multiple minidiscs instead of having to change the entire contents of the memory card on the solid state ones.

Also, my minidisc player has NEVER skipped, i usually use it while riding my bike.
If money is no object though, get an ipod.

minidisc uses a format called atrak, the compression of music in that format has better sq than mp3,plus you have better storage size and md's are fully enclosed(no scratching this baby)the only thing i may have against it ,is that it is sony(kicker didn't make it).but the anti-skip makes it great
