very interesting...after all my looking and what not, i was settled on the CHT-12 from velodyne, then adire audio's rava which would be impossible to listen to, and now i'm onto the paradigm pw series as mentioned way above. I tried both the 12" and the 10" versoin and that 12" is rediculously big compared to the 10" so i think i'll definitely go with the 10" (also $150 cheaper) problem is i don't wanna pay the $750 retail, so i'll have to talk to some people see what i can do about getting one cheaper some how.

I did also look at the spl1000 from velodyne, but that was like 1500-2000 for a speaker...thats silly i'm too poor for that.

definitely check out used - there are a look of people who don't crank their subs out there. You could score a just broken in sub for 30% of retail. I'd go to www.audiogon.com.

^ I would 2nd the Audiogon

I have had good luck with B&W (tight and punchy) and MB Quart (warm and wonderful), and NHT powered subs not too pricey either. I also like Definitive, Monitor Audio, and M&K for theater but the best of the breed is the Linn Sizmik (http://www.hometheatersound.com/equi...inn_sizmik.htm) STOOOPID expensive but nice for theater and music (I like the Linn on music and the M&K on theater). Never cared for Velodyne

If it is available in your area check out an Anthony Gallo system (too cool to ignore) also a used Infinity or Genesis Servo subwoofer is very accurate.
Snell is a fave of mine (I own Snell C and B minor) but I would audition prior to purchase since they have a flat freq response and can really overpower a room.

I listened to the CHT-12....and it sounded alright. Listened to the SPL-1000 at another place that was in a horrible listening room.

All in all after talkin toa few key people that back the paradigm pw-2200 it turns out i can get the 12" paradigm for a lil under 700 or so, so i'll probably go with the pw-2200.

After all it's not like it can be a bad sub.
