NHL Free Agents....
Since you're sticking up for Toronto in this thread you shouldn't have anything bad to say about Pittsburg. Both teams have the same cap but Pittsburg actually put a decent team together.
If the Leafs actually get Lindros then two of their main trades are only a tap away from sitting out the rest of the season.
Joseph is just as good as Belfour only he doesn't have the eagle's bad back.
Hopefully my Detroit team will do something better than their last season but it doesn't look promissing either.

DETROIT RED WINGS
Top Newcomers: Niklas Kronwall, D; Jiri Hudler, C;
Next in Line: Valtteri Filppula, C; Stefan Liv, G
Possible buyouts: Derian Hatcher, D ($4.94M); Brendan Shanahan, LW ($2.28M); Ray Whitney, LW ($2.66M); Darren McCarty, RW ($1.71M)
Possible restricted free agents poached by others: Pavel Datsyuk, C
Needs: Goalie; 1 defenceman; 1 top six forward
Projected cap position: $30M (15 players)
In an extremely difficult cap position, the Wings may need to bite the bullet on Derian Hatcher's contract just to free up enough room to move under the cap. If the Wings don't create that room under the cap, they could find themselves in an untenable position with restricted free agents like Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, both of whom could land offers elsewhere that are worth more money than the Wings would be able to match.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Top Newcomers: Carlo Colaiacovo, D; Mikael Tellqvist, G; Kyle Wellwood, C
Next in Line: Alexander Steen, C; Staffan Kronwall, D; Ian White, D
Possible buyouts: Owen Nolan, RW ($5.627M); Ed Belfour, G ($4.56M); Bryan McCabe, D ($3.458M)
Notable restricted free agents possibly not tendered: Aki Berg, D ($1.064M); Nik Antropov, C ($1.007M);
Needs: 2 top four defencemen; 4 top six forwards
Projected cap position: $20M (9 players)
Getting in order with the league's new financial realities, the Leafs will have their work cut out for them, with little room to add big ticket free agents. While Nolan is going to be a contentious buyout, it remains to be seen if the Leafs would be prepared to unload Ed Belfour and Bryan McCabe as well. If those two get released, the Leafs will actually have plenty of room to deal under the cap. Under any circumstance though, with few players signed, Toronto will most assuredly have a new look by the time John Ferguson Jr. is finished remaking the Leafs' roster.
and my Flames
CALGARY FLAMES
Top Newcomers: Dion Phaneuf, D
Next in Line: Eric Nystrom, LW; Brent Krahn, G
Possible restricted free agents poached by others: Jarome Iginla, RW
Needs: backup goalie; 2 top six forwards
Projected cap position: $30M (19 players)
Provided that the Flames can keep Iggy in the fold, preferably with a long-term deal, the Flames figure to have a similar team to the one that made it to the Cup final in 2004, with one notable additon: rookie defenceman Dion Phaneuf has earned much praise for his play in the Western Hockey League and with Canada's National Junior Team and now it's time for him to make his mark in the NHL with his hard-hitting ways. If the budget will allow it, some scoring help would still be most welcome.

Back 2 Bassiks(sp) McCarty was bought by Calgary. New comers for Toronto... Coliacovo(sp) Tellqvist, Wellwood have been on the team before they were just on the farm
We'll see how long they manages to stay off the farm though as last season that didn't last long.
And I'm pretty sure they bought Belfour & McCabe already. As for Antropov I'm praying to god he disappears.AS for your Flames Iginla was signed like last week.

Bah, who cares about the leafs... we all know they blow -- let's talk about an important team, namely the Canucks!
We still have the best line in the NHL and I still think Nonis has a surprize or two in store. He was behind alot of the Canucks negotiations over the years and never gets half the credit Burke takes for the 'Nucks success.

Back 2 Bassiks - wherever you copied and pasted that from is a few days old. Lots of changes since it was originally posted.
Terri - I don't see how the Leafs are saving their money when they only have ~7M left under cap and they still need 6 players. If they were going to save money under the cap they should have bought out more players and started fresh.

Calgary is getting Dion Phaneuf. That guy is amazing, i watched him play in Midget tryouts. Whenever he made a huge hit, he would show off his number to the scouts. Played awsome for the Canada junior team.

I saw him play quite a bit. About 4 times live and then all during the World Juniors on TV. HE won't be making the same amount of big hits, as he will no longer be the bniggest guy on the ice. But what really impressed me was how he was always in the right place at the right time, and knew where to put the puck for passes. His 'hockey smarts' are way more valuable to Calgary than his hitting abilities.
