Noob in Vancouver

Hey Gang,

I am new to CCA and the installing world. I live in Vancouver BC and am trying to get into the trade.

I'm a quick learner and love to learn new things. I have little experience in the field but hope to get going pretty quick here. I am thinking of taking the MECP certification, but don't really know what else there is in my area.

Anybody know of a shop interested in hiring somebody new.

Like I said I'm more than willing to learn and am excited to get started.

Welcome to CCA!

There is a ton of information on-line for new people....links to some of the better places to read up are found here, for answers to specific questions feel free to ask away on this board. Take the time to look around here a bit first and get familiar with the layout of this forum, there are lots of sections dealing with different aspects of car audio and you will get better responses if you post in the right location.

Sorry I can't help with shops in your area, closest I've been to Vancouver was watching the Olympics on TV......

Again, welcome to the board and the obsession......good luck with your career in audio....

Most independent shops run a tight ship and generally can't afford to train a new installer. Future Shop or Best Buy are your best places to start out - they'll often give a noob a chance and you'll get a lot of hands on doing the basics: decks, speakers, amps, alarms/starters. A lot of guys make a decent career out of working there.

Step 1: Purchase the MECP Basic manual (think they call it Bronze now)
Step 2: Certify as an MECP Installer
Step 3: Apply online to Best Buy or Future Shop. Forget them if you dont have MECP yet
Step 4: Start building your career, learn from other installers, move up the MECP ladder
Step 5: Keep learning and developing your skills and knowledge. If you can't hack it as an installer handling basic decks and speakers, forget about the rest. Things like AEAT certifications will be great on a resume and just further prove you know what you're doing on paper. The real test is your work. Good work gets noticed, and people will pay for it. Stay consistent. Remote starter season is the bread and butter of these shops, so get REAL comfortable with those before you start getting grand ideas from shows like Unique Whips or Pimp My Ride ((()))

Best of luck!
