That's what i was thinking...

Maybe SPL is more pre 2000 but car audio in general is more like mid 90's

I think it's funny to us bonafide old skoolers when somebody puts up a post about old skool gear and it's like from 2001. You can immediately tell they are under 25 years old.

IMO the industry took a major shift around 1995:
- Rockford changed from the BBQs to the spaceships
- Alpine went V12
- PPI lost their fins and went to the PC line
- Phoenix Gold lost their fins
- Soundstream got sold and went offshore
- In dash video appeared and people traded spending money on better sound to spending it on video.
- DbDrag got big and while it helped sales of amps and woofers, it killed SQ - the real heart of aftermarket car audio. People used to buy gear primarily to make their car sound better. DbD changed that to primarily sound louder and a bunch of the SQ only brands: Denon, ADS, Concord, Linear Power(yeah they did ok at SPL for a while) disappeared or went into obscurity.

I remember when seeing a carpeted (at least) sub box in a trunk or maybe a trim panel or hidden wiring was expected and seeing a bare MDF box rolling around a trunk with an amp duct-taped to the carpet was like Now it's like "Wow, check the fanciness. That guy has carpet on his box and the port is actually INSIDE the box!"
