Old School
I still have 3 a/d/s amps sitting in my closet, along with a PPI 600.2 (art series) a RF Power 1100a2 (its from 99 but still a clasic IMO) and a phoenix gold bass cube.
I have to agree 95 was the cutoff year with a few exeptions, Damn DEI and there buyout crap! Phoenix gold...fell off, Rockford Fosgate... went strong for a bit, but then came the model line up with the blue light on top, WTF was that. There coming back now. Orion, .25 ohm stable amps, those were the days.
Best amp I ever owned was a Rodek RA 2180, can't remember the year but def. early 90's

I consider oldschool when tapes were the primary source of sound in a aftermarket system.
I Like Dukk's reference to when SQ got put on the back burner... these days SQ in car audio would be on the back, back back burner of the spare stove... it's still there, but 99.5% of the people buying sound systems today think a factory bose setup is absolutely amazing.. and their JVC head unit powering stock honda speakers, listening to low quality MP3's is the shizz..
As an enthusiast I caught the end of the glory days (1998 when I got my first car and sound system). As an installer (2002) SQ was on a definate downswing and peoples perception of what sounds good would make my ears cry.
I've had so many younger clients sit in my beetle to demo it to them and they thought it sounded like crap. no noise, no distortion, nice deep sound stage and nearly flat frequency response. some I've asked them what they would do to improve the sound... ALL said tuen the loud featue on and but the treble at +4 at least and bass +3. It's a fa cry from the days when people knew what good sound was

mmmm ahhhhh Rooooodeeeeek LOL I was running an RA4100 and a 2300 in a trans am.... 4-12's off the 2300, tweets and 8's in the rear pillars, 5.25's and tweets in the doors and 4's in the dash and i miss that setup... Never again seen an RA 4100 nor a 2300 (not the UFO body, the gold brick model).. Got into the orion cheaters too (the 0.25 ohm goodness) and those still are the bomb...
I got a hold of Steve @ Zed Audio a couple years ago to see if he had a line on a 4100 or 2300 and he told me that they were worth their weight in gold LOL
I still have some of the smaller Rodek's, the crunch models etc... I almost feel like i'd be wearing the football jersey of the other team if I went to something new rather than the old stuff
