Ontario Auto Insurance: Points vs. Convictions
#1
so everyone says that in ontario insurance cares about points on your driving record BUT i recently read somewhere that they actually only care about convictions. Meaning if you some how get points but do not get convicted as being guilty in court then your auto insurance will not go up (unless at this point your license gets suspended). Can anyone comment on this?

Insurance risk for traffic violations is based on convictions and not points.
When it comes time to renew your insurance policy the insurance company may not always search for any new convictions which would explain your rates not going up.

How exactly though would you get points without a conviction? Is that even possible?

A good friend of mine was issued a ticket after getting into an accident. He fought the ticket in court and it was nullified, however, his insurance rates still skyrocketed, so now he takes the subway to work. I most definitely think he got the short end of the stick..
